Coming from different cultures and backgrounds, Amy and Amit wanted to honor their roots by following cultural and religious traditions that were meaningful to them and their families. It was also important that their wedding reflected their personalities and vibrant lives. Since it was pretty much impossible to fit everything in one day, the couple decided on a two day wedding celebration - on Day 1 they honored Amy's Jewish background (Read about DAY 1 celebration here!) and on Day 2 - Amit's Indian heritage. Day 2 started off really smoothly with Amit's close family and friends helping Amy's side of the family with traditional Indian outfits. jewelry, makeup and hair. One of the first things that surprised Western guests was the baraat - groom's procession to the ceremony on a decorated white horse followed by the guests and lots of drumming! Traditional ceremony under the Mandap - a beautiful colorful canopy took place right after light refreshments (ah! what an interesting parallel - that both in Indian and Jewish weddings, the couples were wed under a canopy - a striking similarity between two cultures (among many others) that was noted by the amazing MC as she explained the ceremony to the guests). A buffet dinner, heartfelt toasts, and some singing followed the ceremony. Both Amy and Amit really liked a particular bakery, and while cutting the cake may not be an Indian tradition, they cut their small delicious cake and ate it too! Oh, and the most fun part of the evening of course was dancing that was passionate, full of joy and energy that kept young and old on the dance floor till the very end! This was a night, no, scratch that, a weekend to remember & we, once again, wish Amy and Amit tons of love and happiness for many many years to come! |
